Population Assignment

1.)

  • Egypt has an average of 38 internet users. I found this interesting because where we live, in the United States, using the internet is very, very common. In fact, the United States has an average of 246, 809, 221 internet users! It just seems strange to think that a country has 38 users when here in the United States, that number is much bigger. This statistic shows that Egypt may not be as developed as our country.
  • 39.90% of children of the age of five in Yemen are underweight. I found this interesting because there is a large amount of children who aren't getting enough food/nutrients to have a healthy BMI. This is sad because these children are so young and should be receiving what they need to be healthy. However, sometimes, countries like Yemen cannot provide it. This statistic shows that Yemen might have issues like not having enough food to feed the country, not having the money to get food for the children, etc.
  • The Pitcairn Islands have no roadways.  I found this interesting because roadways help you very much to get to places you need to go. Therefore, I would think that a country with no roads would have a harder time getting place to place. However, the Pitcairn Islands are very small and they are islands, so it would make more sense if they had less roads or even no roads at all. This statistic shows that the Pitcairn Islands are not only very small in comparison to other countries, but also that people have to use another mode of transportation (such as walking) all the time.
  • Peru's Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is 2.1. I found this interesting because the calculated rate of replacement is 2.1. Peru is ranked 101 on the country comparison list for largest TFR. The rate of replacement is 2.1 because it would take 2 children to replace their parents, but since some mothers unfortunately die during childbirth, the TFR for replacement is 2.1.  Having this said, Peru has exactly this number. This statistic allows us to imply that the population in Peru is staying the same, and not increasing or decreasing.
  • .80% of Burma's GDP go into education expenditures. I found this interesting because personally, I believe that education is one of the most important things when it comes to living in a country. I know that I would want to live in a country that valued education and had a wide variety of schools, teaching facilities, etc. On the country comparison list, ranking countries by the greatest percent of GDP they use to go into education expenditures, Burma was ranked last. This statistic shows that Burma does not spend nearly as much of their GDP for education as other countries, so we could imply that a lack of education might be a push factor in Burma, since people might not want to be in a country with a lack of education.
